About the Award
Every community is made stronger by ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Every day, individuals across Emery County quietly lend a helping hand, encourage a neighbor, mentor a young person, volunteer their time, or simply show up for others. They don't seek recognition—they simply care.
The Spirit of Service Award, presented quarterly by the 1Direction Prevention Coalition and recognized by the Emery County Commission, was created to celebrate these everyday heroes.
Unlike many awards that recognize accomplishments tied to a profession, title, or public role, the Spirit of Service Award honors individuals whose quiet acts of kindness, compassion, service, and encouragement make a lasting difference in the lives of others. Whether they are supporting youth, strengthening families, helping a neighbor, volunteering behind the scenes, or bringing people together, these individuals help create a stronger community through their everyday actions.
The 1Direction Prevention Coalition believes that prevention begins long before a crisis. Prevention starts with caring adults, connected families, supportive relationships, and communities where everyone feels valued and connected. These protective factors help children, youth, and families thrive and reflect our vision of creating a nurturing community that empowers families, children, and youth through education, connection, and inspiring positive
